Podcastery - Episode 3

Here it is: our third podcast. In which we finally learn how to (mostly) stay on topic and even make some points! Very exciting.

This particular session discusses 1.06 The Pack and 1.07 Angel. We're moving right along...

As usual, click to listen in streaming mode, right-click or control-click to download for your later listening pleasure. Or derision. Whichever.

Note: If you're having trouble getting the above file to play, then
a) please let us know, and
b) try this one, which seems to work.

I'm not sure why this file seems to cause trouble, since I didn't do anything new, but meanwhile at least there's an alternative. Because really, who would want to miss an episode? Heh.

When I click on it, I get a message asking if I want to save the file or "find a program online to open it" and then I get a meaasge saying it's an unknown file etc etc.

Your other podcasts came up fine for me. I have no idea why this one isn't.
Jul. 2nd, 2008 03:27 pm (UTC)
How bizarre! When it offers to save the file, what format does it suggest?
Jul. 2nd, 2008 03:36 pm (UTC)
I saved it and Windows cannot open the file and it's not giving me any other options. I usually use either Windows media or VCL to listen to audio.
Jul. 2nd, 2008 03:41 pm (UTC)
Okay, it may have been a file name issue. I've changed it and fixed the link. Does it work now?
Jul. 2nd, 2008 03:51 pm (UTC)
No, it doesn't. I still get the same message.

Thank you for trying. Sorry to be such a pain but I want to link it on the Herald and right now, I can't even copy the link code. I may just point people at this post, if that's okay with you?
Jul. 2nd, 2008 03:54 pm (UTC)
Oh, no, I'm glad to know there's a problem! I'm going to try uploading a new file with a different name, and see if that works. If not, we may have exhausted my personal (very limited) arsenal of ideas.

Hmm, have you tried manually changing the extension on the file you downloaded, to m4a? or mp3?

If you're having trouble, I'm sure you won't be the only one.
Jul. 2nd, 2008 04:02 pm (UTC)
*nods* Thank you! I'll keep watching this post to see if you fixed it then.

It saved it in m4a and I'd try that, if I knew how. I'm kind of a tech dummy so I'm limited too.

I quite enjoy listening to your podcasts, even when y'all are rambling on.
Jul. 2nd, 2008 04:04 pm (UTC)
Ramble? We don't ramble. Sometimes we have a lot to say, and very substantial tangents to go on, but rambling? Not even!

It makes me smile and always reminds me of a couple of my LJ friends, a warm and rainy September day and a lunch that lasted for over five hours.
Jul. 2nd, 2008 04:15 pm (UTC)
Lunches tend to do that when LJers are involved.

Okay, I've uploaded a separate file here. See if that works for you.

If not, um, I got nothin'. They're all in the same format. Quicktime plays m4a files, and I think Windows Media Player does as well.

We do tend to take, er, long detours at times. I'm glad that doesn't ruin the podcasts for you! This time we actually stay fairly close to the topic, but we are a bit nonlinear about things...
Jul. 2nd, 2008 04:17 pm (UTC)
Nope. Still the same message.

Long detours work for me. :)
Jul. 2nd, 2008 07:53 pm (UTC)
If you get a chance, could you try this file? It's supposedly been converted: it will still show up as m4a, but if you tell WMP to try anyway, it should work. We hope.

I still don't understand what happened, since I didn't do anything differently compared to the other podcasts, but if this is a fix it will give me time to try to figure things out.
Jul. 2nd, 2008 08:03 pm (UTC)
Ha! Finally. It still wouldn't play with WMP but it does in VCL.

Thank you for all your hard work making it available.
Jul. 2nd, 2008 08:09 pm (UTC)
Yay! Thank Masq, she's the one with access to a Windows machine and the smarts.

Now, hopefully we can keep that from happening again...
Jul. 2nd, 2008 08:14 pm (UTC)
If need be, we can convert it each week with my handy-dandy m4a converter. I keep my Windows machine at home at night, since all it are belong to me.
Jul. 2nd, 2008 08:24 pm (UTC)
Where would we be without you?

Jul. 2nd, 2008 07:47 pm (UTC)
Plin oh Plin, you got my converted file--did you upload it?
Jul. 2nd, 2008 07:52 pm (UTC)
I I just finished. (Sorry, had to run some errands in the meantime.)
Jul. 2nd, 2008 07:58 pm (UTC)
So far, so good. It's downloaded and is now playing.
Jul. 2nd, 2008 08:00 pm (UTC)
Understandable. Needed to get out there while it was still < 100.
Jul. 2nd, 2008 08:10 pm (UTC)
Oh, it was already over 100°. But it was under 110°, so still bearable.
